Leicester City head coach Gary Rowett spoke to the media after his side’s frustrating draw against Preston North End.

Rowett’s time at the club has produced eight points from eight Championship games, a record that reflects inconsistency rather than progress. Instead of clear improvement, Leicester appear stuck, struggling to move away from the lower end of the table.

The defensive structure Rowett aimed to build was once again exposed during the match. Despite the team’s issues, Patson Daka stood out, working hard and playing a key role in keeping Leicester competitive.

After the match, Rowett gave a surprisingly positive assessment of the performance:

> “I’m obviously going to be a little bit biased, but looking at the performance, I would say for 95 per cent of it, it was really good. There were a lot of things to like about it.”

He also pointed to the unusual timing of the fixture after the international break as a factor:

> “I know they’d argue that our two goals came from a mistake from them, but we also had 26 other shots.”

Rowett described Preston as a well-organized team and admitted Leicester conceded two “silly goals.” However, he insisted the problems were more about small tactical errors rather than deeper structural issues.

At half-time, he told his players:

> “I’ll be honest with you, apart from the two goals, which I know sounds ridiculous, there was a lot to like about this and we’ve just got to maintain that.”

Despite the team’s struggles, Rowett believes Leicester should have won the game and has challenged his players to win all their remaining matches an ambitious target given their current form.
