Leicester City manager Russell Martin has insisted he was frustrated with the two “poor” goals conceded in the 2-1 defeat to Luton Town on Saturday.
The Foxes suffered injury-time heartbreak at Kenilworth Road with Callum Marshall bundling home the winner in the fourth minute of added time. It came just minutes after Liam Cullen came off the bench to equalise for City.
Luton had opened the scoring in the 39th minute when Nakhi Wells converted inside the box past Alex McCarthy. The goal came after Caleb Okoli had the ball snatched off him inside the Foxes half.
“I think we did so well to get ourselves back in the game with 10-men, you can’t lose the game,” Martin said. “So disappointing because within a couple of minutes the feeling can be so different, it can feel like a win almost, 10-men battling draw, brilliant goal and then you can see the goal.
“[It’s] frustrating, it was the only time they entered our box at that point really, up until then for a while. We give away two poor goals today, that’s my frustration.
“We don’t start the game well, we weather the storm. Just the aggression and fight in the team in the second half was so much better, it gave us a real chance and then we got back in the game.
“You can’t get beat from there, I’ve said that to the players. You just can’t.”

Because EFL League One matches do not utilize the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, the explanation and context surrounding the incident center on the mechanics of the decision and the intense backlash it provoked.
Following severe protests and pressure from the Luton Town players, Woods consulted with his assistant referee (linesman). After a lengthy discussion, he overturned his original call and disallowed the goal, bringing play back for an alleged infringement/foul in the buildup.
