Arsenal are set to complete their long-awaited £75 million move for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, with the two clubs now close to reaching a final agreement over the transfer.
The Gunners have been pursuing the Brazil international for weeks and are now believed to have found a compromise with Newcastle to bring the transfer saga to an end.
Guimaraes is currently waiting for permission to leave Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, as he prepares to travel and complete the final formalities of his move to North London.

The midfielder is expected to undergo his Arsenal medical later this week before officially becoming a new addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
One of the major details surrounding the deal involves Guimaraes’ former club Lyon. The French side inserted a sell-on clause when the midfielder joined Newcastle in 2022, meaning they are entitled to 20 per cent of the profit made from his transfer.
As a result, Lyon are expected to receive around £7–8 million from the deal once the move is completed.
Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 and quickly became one of the club’s most important players. His leadership qualities, technical ability and influence in midfield saw him rise to become club captain and a fan favourite at St James’ Park.
However, the 28-year-old has now made his intention clear that he wants to join Arsenal, where he has emerged as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice target for the central midfield position which be already told the club he his willing to leave if a ‘suitable offer arrives’ and final Arsenal offered a suitable offer.
Arsenal have been searching for a dominant midfielder capable of adding strength, creativity and defensive quality to their squad, and Arteta sees Guimaraes as the ideal profile to improve his team.
Newcastle and Arsenal have been negotiating the final terms of the agreement throughout the week, with both sides now close to completing the transfer.
If the deal goes through, Guimaraes will become one of Arsenal’s biggest signings of the summer window, while Newcastle will lose another key figure following major changes at the club.
