The Magpies submitted an offer believed to be worth around £46million (€54m) for the 20-year-old midfielder, a proposal that exceeded Nottingham Forest’s previous approaches for the player.
However, Tottenham have rejected Newcastle’s bid, with Spurs determined to keep hold of Bergvall unless a suitable offer arrives that matches their valuation.
Despite being under contract with Tottenham until June 2031, Bergvall has reportedly informed the club of his desire to explore an opportunity elsewhere this summer, attracting interest from several clubs across England and Europe.
Newcastle’s pursuit of the midfielder comes after a busy summer window, following the departure of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and their failure to secure the signing of Johan Manzambi, who joined Aston Villa instead.
Bergvall joined Spurs from Swedish side Djurgården in 2024 for around £8.5million and has since made 78 appearances for the club, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young midfield prospects.
The midfielder featured 33 times in all competitions last season, contributing one goal and five assists, although his campaign was interrupted after undergoing surgery for a high ankle sprain that kept him sidelined until March.
