Newcastle completed the signing of 20-year-old Ivorian winger Bazoumana Touré from TSG Hoffenheim for £43 million as a replacement for Gordon, while highly-rated French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen arrived from Stade de Reims for a reported fee between £18 million and £21.5 million.
The agreement for Ajax youngster Sean Steur further highlights the Magpies’ commitment to securing some of Europe’s brightest prospects, with Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi also among their reported targets.
However, Newcastle’s summer plans have also been overshadowed by uncertainty surrounding captain Bruno Guimarães.
Arsenal are reportedly exploring a move for the Brazilian midfielder, who enjoyed a standout World Cup campaign despite missing a crucial penalty against Norway.
The Magpies have maintained that Guimarães is not available for transfer and, following Tonali’s departure, are determined to keep their midfield leader unless a huge offer arrives.
With more reinforcements expected, Newcastle are continuing their search for a right-back, central defender and striker as Eddie Howe looks to build a stronger, younger and more competitive squad capable of challenging at the highest level.
