Manchester United Legend Roy Keane BRUTALLY RATTLES Leicester City’s €14M Signing After Woeful Display Against Luton

Leicester City suffered a 2-1 defeat to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday to end their winning run, with Caleb Okoli facing fresh criticism after a costly mistake contributed to the Foxes’ first-half problems.

The Foxes made the trip down the M1 on the back of two straight victories and looked destined to have secured a dramatic late equaliser when Liam Cullen scored in injury time. However, Luton recovered and bagged a late winner through substitute Callum Marshall.

Nakhi Wells’ goal in the 39th minute put the home side ahead in a first half they controlled and had plenty of chances.

Alex McCarthy made three good saves to keep the home side out inside the first 25 minutes. His first stop denied Tudor Mendel before he pulled off successive saves from Kasey Palmer and Mads Andersen.

City’s first opportunity came on the break with Kamari Doyle and Will Alves involved. Alves carried the ball towards Luton’s box before playing Doyle through, but James Shea got down low to tip it wide.

Leicester thought they had taken the lead when Emil Riis bundled home from close range. Excellent play from Alves and Sammy Braybrooke created an opportunity for Luke Thomas, whose shot fell to the striker on the floor.

The goal was initially allowed, only for referee Martin Woods to rule it out after conferring with his assistant referee.

Luton’s first-half pressure paid off before the break when Wells scored his first-ever goal against City. Caleb Okoli, who had been a target of the home side’s pressing, had the ball pinched off him before Wells smashed home.

Okoli’s performance quickly became a major talking point among Leicester supporters, with the defender struggling to cope with Luton’s pressing and coming under scrutiny for his role in the opening goal.

The Italian defender joined Leicester City in 2025 for a reported €14 million fee, arriving with the expectation of helping the club compete in the Premier League. However, Leicester’s struggles have since taken them into League One, and his display against Luton has raised fresh questions about his ability to deliver the consistency required.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane took aim at the defender, saying: “Caleb Okoli who was signed by Leicester back in 2025 for €14M to play in the premier league has just done this for them in league one..

“Whoever scouted him should get jailed for life ” in Sunday morning league report.
he added after all: “I’ve always thought he is a disaster waiting to happen and this does nothing to make me change my mind.”

The criticism reflects the frustration surrounding a performance in which Leicester struggled to contain Luton’s attacking pressure. Okoli had produced two good performances before the trip to Kenilworth Road, but his difficulty dealing with the hosts’ pressing proved costly, particularly when his mistake led to Wells opening the scoring.

City made two changes at the break, with Wes Burns returning from illness and Will Smallbone coming on. Okoli and Louis Page were sacrificed in their place.

Leicester started the second half much better and forced the hosts to panic in their build-up play. However, they failed to create any clear-cut chances.

After having a goal controversially ruled out earlier in the game, Leicester were victims of another questionable decision when Smallbone was kicked in the head inside the box. After taking his time, referee Woods allowed play to continue.

City eventually got their goal when Cullen latched on to Riis’ knockdown outside the area. However, the action didn’t stop there, as Luton snatched a dramatic winner.

A teasing ball across goal was met by Marshall in front of the empty net, allowing him to bundle the ball home and condemn Leicester to defeat.

The late collapse ensured Leicester left empty-handed despite their improved second-half display. For Okoli, the match brought another difficult afternoon under scrutiny, with supporters questioning whether the defender can consistently deliver the performances expected of a player signed for such a significant fee.
