Newcastle United could be preparing for a major move when the January transfer window opens, with the club’s recruitment team reportedly looking closely at an established Premier League name.
The Magpies have already invested heavily in reshaping their squad, but Matthias Jaissle’s side could still require further additions as the season develops.
One area attracting particular attention is the creative side of midfield.
Newcastle want players capable of carrying the ball forward, creating chances and operating in different attacking positions. That profile has reportedly brought one familiar Premier League figure onto the club’s radar.

According to recent reports, Newcastle are among the clubs monitoring Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of the January window. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have also been linked with interest in the Nottingham Forest captain.
And this is where the story becomes particularly interesting.
Forest are under no immediate pressure to sell. Gibbs-White is contracted until June 2028, giving the club significant negotiating power over his future. Reports have suggested that Forest could consider proposals in the region of €70m–€80m (£60m–£69m), potentially with bonuses and other conditions included.
That price tag would make any January approach a serious financial commitment.
But Newcastle’s reported interest is not simply based on his reputation.
Gibbs-White offers Premier League experience and the ability to operate centrally or move into wider areas, while his creativity and transition play are among the qualities reportedly attracting attention.
There is, however, an important reality check.
No formal offer has been made by Newcastle and there are currently no confirmed negotiations with either Forest or the player. The current reporting describes Newcastle as monitoring and evaluating the possibility of a future approach.
That means the January window could become very interesting if Newcastle decide to turn their reported interest into action.

A move for Gibbs-White would also potentially create a major transfer battle, given the number of Premier League clubs reportedly keeping an eye on the situation.
For now, Newcastle supporters will have to wait.
But if the Magpies eventually decide that Gibbs-White is the player they want, the figure being discussed could make this one of the biggest Newcastle transfer stories of the winter.
