Russell Martin was left facing some serious questions after Leicester City suffered a humiliating 4–0 defeat to Oxford United at the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes went into the game hoping to build momentum after their recent victory over Plymouth Argyle, but instead produced a performance that left supporters furious and raised fresh concerns about the direction of the club.
Oxford took complete advantage of Leicester’s weaknesses, scoring four times and leaving the home supporters stunned.
The reaction inside the King Power Stadium was brutal.
Sections of the Leicester support turned on Martin during the game, with fans calling for the manager to be sacked as frustration boiled over. Oxford supporters even joined in with chants of “You’re getting sacked in the morning.”
But Martin’s reaction after the final whistle was perhaps even more revealing.
Rather than trying to hide behind excuses, the Leicester boss delivered a remarkably blunt assessment of what had gone wrong.

And his admission pointed towards one of the biggest problems currently facing his team.
Martin admitted that Leicester had been too young and too inexperienced, while also acknowledging that his players had been naive and too soft.
«“The learning is the team was too young, and too inexperienced at the end. We were naive and a bit too soft.”»
That was not the end of Martin’s brutally honest assessment.
The Leicester boss described the defeat as “a punch in the nose”, but insisted that his players now have to show character and respond.
«“It has been a punch in the nose today, but we have to be really brave and stand up.”»
Martin also acknowledged that Leicester’s reliance on youth has created problems and admitted that the team needs to find the right balance between young players and experience.
That admission will undoubtedly concern Leicester supporters.
The club were relegated to League One last season and were expected to challenge for an immediate return to the Championship.
Instead, Saturday’s defeat leaves Martin’s side languishing in 17th place after five league matches, already seven points behind leaders Sheffield Wednesday.
For Leicester fans, that is the part that makes the situation even more worrying.
This was not simply a narrow defeat or an unlucky afternoon.
Oxford scored four times at the King Power, while Leicester failed to produce the response supporters expected after falling behind.
The manner of the defeat has therefore intensified the pressure on Martin, particularly given the expectations surrounding the club following relegation.
Former Leicester winger Matt Piper went even further after the match, describing the performance as “a sackable performance.”
Martin, however, knows that he cannot afford to dwell on the result.
His message was clear: Leicester have to stand up, learn from what happened and find a better balance within the squad.
The next opportunity to respond comes against Stockport County.
But after being dismantled 4–0 at home by Oxford United, Martin will know that simply winning the next game may not be enough to calm the growing anger around the club.
Leicester supporters wanted a promotion challenge.
Instead, after just five league matches, they are already asking whether the club could be heading towards another difficult season.
