The Magpies have acted with incredible speed to secure the signature of the highly rated Dutch midfielder, with the transfer progressing from initial interest to an advanced stage in less than 24 hours. Reports first emerged that Newcastle had submitted a bid for the 18-year-old, and by Tuesday evening, Steur had already arrived on Tyneside ahead of his medical.
The pace of the negotiations has caught many supporters by surprise. Before news of the agreement surfaced, Steur had barely been linked with a move to St James’ Park, making Newcastle’s swoop one of the most unexpected transfer stories of the window.
