adminNewcastle United are closing in on their second summer signing after sanctioning Sandro Tonali’s £100 million move to Tottenham Hotspur.
A deal worth £92.5 million, plus £7.5 million in achievable add-ons, has been agreed with Spurs, making Tonali the second-most expensive sale in Newcastle’s history after Alexander Isak’s British-record £130 million move to Liverpool last season.
Tonali is due to arrive in London to undergo his medical before signing a six-year contract, which will nearly double his current wages.
The Italian midfielder joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023 for £55 million but made only a handful of appearances after receiving a 10-month betting ban. He returned at the start of the 2024/25 season and helped the Magpies win the Carabao Cup and qualify for the Champions League.
However, Tonali was among several Newcastle players who struggled for consistency last season as the club finished 12th in the Premier League. He becomes the second major departure of the summer after Anthony Gordon’s £69 million transfer to Barcelona.
The funds raised from player sales are expected to allow Eddie Howe to strengthen several areas of his squad.
Newcastle United pencil in Bazoumana Toure medical
After missing out on Spanish winger Victor Munoz, whose move was hijacked by Liverpool, Newcastle have agreed a reported £43 million deal for Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure.
The 20-year-old has been given permission to travel to Tyneside to complete his medical and sign a long-term contract. According to Fabrizio Romano, Toure chose Newcastle ahead of interest from other clubs in England and Germany.
Toure’s involvement at the FIFA World Cup ended this week after Ivory Coast were beaten 2-1 by Norway in the Round of 32. He featured in three of his country’s four matches, making one start and two substitute appearances.
The winger enjoyed an impressive season with Hoffenheim, registering 15 assists and five goals, performances that convinced Newcastle to move for his signature.
