The Magpies are looking to strengthen their attack after a disappointing 2025–26 campaign, which saw them finish 13th in the Premier League despite reaching the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Manager Eddie Howe is expected to receive backing in the transfer market, with Newcastle’s financial position strengthened following the sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona in a deal worth around £69–70 million. The departure has helped ease the club’s Profit and Sustainability concerns.

However, one part of the original report should be treated with caution. Claims that Newcastle must sell Yoane Wissa before signing Balogun have not been independently confirmed by leading Newcastle journalists and currently stem from the same French report.
Overall, Newcastle’s interest in Balogun and Monaco’s €50 million asking price appear genuine, while Aston Villa continue to monitor the situation without making a formal move.
