Phone Calls Made as Newcastle United Target Attacker Ahead of Possible Transfer

There is a lot of talk surrounding Sandro Tonali at the moment. The Italian midfielder is believed to be open to the possibility of leaving Newcastle United, while clubs such as Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are reportedly monitoring his situation.

Among those clubs, Tottenham appear to be the most advanced in their interest. They have already seen an £80 million bid for Tonali rejected.

Newcastle are believed to value the midfielder at around £100 million, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be willing to meet that asking price.

One possibility is that Spurs could attempt to lower the fee by including a player in the deal, potentially someone who could strengthen Newcastle’s attacking options.

Newcastle have experienced issues in attack. Alexander Isak left for Liverpool last summer and was replaced by Nick Woltemade.

Woltemade started well but struggled for consistency as the season progressed. By the end of the campaign, he was often deployed away from the striker position. Overall, he scored 11 goals in 51 appearances.

In addition, Anthony Gordon’s departure to Barcelona further reduced Eddie Howe’s attacking options.

As a result, Newcastle could be in the market for another striker. According to a report from the Mirror, Tottenham could offer Richarlison as part of a deal to sign Tonali.

Would Richarlison be a good addition?

Richarlison has already proven himself in English football through his spells with Everton and Tottenham. However, he has faced difficulties since moving to North London.

The Brazilian has scored 32 goals in 133 appearances for Spurs, a return that falls short of what would be expected from an elite striker.

Furthermore, clubs have become increasingly reluctant to accept players as part of transfer deals in recent years. There is little reason to believe Newcastle would be eager to change that approach.

If Tonali were to leave, Newcastle would likely already have alternative transfer targets identified. The club may prefer to maximise the transfer fee and reinvest the money in their preferred signings rather than reduce the cash value of the deal by accepting Richarlison in exchange.
