Jordan James Releases Official Statement on His Departure After Blackburn Rovers Clash

Stephy Mavididi gave League One-bound Leicester City a small moment of relief at the end of a disappointing season as his late goal secured a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.

Ten years after the club’s Premier League title win, Leicester managed just their second victory in 21 matches, in a campaign that ended with relegation to League One for only the second time in their 142-year history.

Blackburn, who had already secured safety after their win over Sheffield United, missed several key chances in the second half and were unable to build on their recent improved form under Michael O’Neill.

Leicester started with eight players who had featured during their Premier League years, but they spent much of the match under pressure before creating chances in the first half.

Harry Souttar came close from a Harry Winks set-piece, but Blackburn goalkeeper Balazs Toth made a strong save. Leicester then pushed forward with efforts from Mavididi, Jannik Vestergaard, Hamza Choudhury, and 16-year-old Jeremy Monga, but they were unable to score.

Blackburn’s first real chance came in the 37th minute when Moussa Baradji forced a save from Jakub Stolarczyk.

The home side then wasted two clear chances early in the second half, with Baradji and Yuki Ohashi both failing to convert.

Despite continued pressure from Blackburn, Leicester held firm. Substitute Jordan Ayew later came close before Mavididi finally broke the deadlock in the 78th minute, finishing after his first attempt was blocked.

Blackburn pushed again late on, but Leicester held on for the win. There were few celebrations at full-time from the Leicester players despite the result.

Leicester City will now prepare for life in League One next season after a dramatic fall from top-flight football.
