James, City’s top scorer, missed both of the club’s Easter fixtures due to the injury. Manager Gary Rowett had initially suggested James was close to returning, but the problem worsened during a recent fitness test.
Meanwhile, midfielder Aaron Ramsey continues his recovery after pulling a hamstring in the last game of 2025. He recently received an injection but is unlikely to feature against Swansea. Rowett expressed hope that Ramsey could return for next Saturday’s match against Portsmouth.
“He (James) has done some work this morning, so we’ll see how he feels after that,” Rowett said during Thursday’s press conference. “We’re hopeful he might be available for the game. If he’s not, he’ll 100% be available for the next fixture. It’s just a matter of whether this game has come too quickly.”
Rowett added: “It’s just his heel. It’s really bruised. Every time you put your foot down, decelerate, or land, it creates discomfort. Until that improves, it can be hard to manage, and what feels like a minor injury can persist. We’ll give him the best chance possible, but sometimes these things are unpredictable.
While there are no new major injury concerns, Rowett mentioned a couple of knocks picked up during Thursday’s session without specifying which players were affected.
Leicester City fans will be keeping a close eye on James’ progress, as his fitness could prove pivotal in the club’s battle to climb the Championship table.
