adminLeicester City’s hopes of escaping the Championship relegation zone suffered yet another major setback after a frustrating 1-1 draw against rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday, and this time, manager Gary Rowett did not hold back.
Despite creating a huge number of chances, Leicester’s problems were clear at both ends of the pitch. The Foxes dominated possession and piled on pressure, but poor finishing and weak defending once again cost them valuable points.
> “We’ve had over 50 shots. We’ve had over 20 shots on target. We have to score goals. If we’re not going to show physical resilience defensively, then we have to show quality.”
Even with all that attacking pressure, Leicester failed to take control of the game. Sheffield Wednesday, with far fewer opportunities, still managed to punish them a pattern that has become all too familiar this season.
Rowett also pointed to missed chances that should have secured all three points:
> “We’ve had most of the ball, we’ve had all of the chances. They’ve had one shot on target; we’ve had five or six incredible chances. The keeper’s made some very good saves. We’ve hit the post, we’ve hit the bar… we’re disappointed.”
In a brutally honest assessment, Rowett pointed directly at one of the team’s biggest problems their defending.
> “We’re not defending well enough. It’s as simple as that.”
Those words summed up a performance that has left fans furious and deeply worried about the club’s future.
Against a side sitting at the very bottom of the table, Leicester once again showed a lack of organisation, aggression, and urgency when it mattered most.
Rowett expanded on the issue, clearly frustrated with how easily his team is being exposed:
> “When the ball comes into your box, you’ve got to go and dominate it. They put it in the right area and they’re aggressive unfortunately, we weren’t.”
The frustration didn’t stop there. The Leicester boss was also left angered by a controversial penalty decision that went against his side:
> “It’s a clear penalty. It’s quite ridiculous. I don’t understand why that’s not given.”
But beyond the refereeing decisions, Rowett made it clear the biggest issue lies within his own team.
With just one win in their last 15 matches, Leicester are now in serious danger, and fans are beginning to lose patience.
What once looked like a team capable of bouncing back now appears fragile, inconsistent, and lacking the fight needed to survive.
