Gary Rowett Reveals What Opposing Manager Told Him After Leicester City Were Held to 2-2 Draw Against Preston NE

The run-in has arrived. Six games and one month of football separate Leicester City from their Championship fate, as the Foxes still linger at the bottom of the table.

As things stand, City are heading for relegation. They’re inside the drop zone and just a point from safety. Their record of one win in seven under Gary Rowett must improve if they are to stay up in the Championship.

On paper, a game against Preston seemed promising for the Foxes. Only Sheffield Wednesday have earned fewer points than North End over the past eight matches, and Preston looks to be out of the play-off hunt.

But QPR had very little to play for when they visited the King Power Stadium a few weeks ago—and they walked away with a 3-1 win, much to the fans’ frustration.

Interim manager Gary Rowett, who replaced Andy King after Marti Cerfuenti was shown the door, is yet to win two games for the Foxes. His team squandered an early lead and ended up settling for a 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium.

Speaking after the match, the manager, who believes Leicester City deserved victory, addressed the press.

GR: “Every game we need to be winning. Every game we play like that we should be winning.

“We played Stoke and had a great chance at the end and should have won the game. Watford we should have won the game.

“Their manager came off afterwards, Ed Still, and said I’m not quite sure how you haven’t beaten us.

“I don’t know what Hecky’s thoughts are but I’d imagine he felt we dominated the shots and chances and that it was a difficult game for them.

“Maybe at 2-1 they think they should win the game, but I don’t think you can say that on the balance of the performance.

“But games are running out, points are getting fewer and fewer, and other teams will win games of football.

“It’s up to us. It’s how we do it. It’s making sure we stay united. But ultimately we’ve got to win games of football. If you don’t, you don’t deserve to go above other teams.

“On that performance, and on the performances I’ve seen over the period of time I’ve been here, we’ve been incredibly competitive and we should have more points than we have. We’ve got to make sure we get those points.”
