The Magpies have already secured their first signing of the summer, bringing in highly-rated French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims. However, the 20-year-old may not be the only goalkeeper arriving at St James’ Park before the transfer window closes.
Victor Muñoz Agreement Moving Closer
Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Osasuna winger Victor Muñoz, with negotiations progressing rapidly between the two clubs.
Reports in Spain suggest an agreement could be reached soon, although several details still need to be finalised. Muñoz has a €40 million (£34.5 million) release clause, but Newcastle are attempting to complete the transfer for a package worth just over €30 million plus performance-related bonuses.
The 22-year-old only joined Osasuna from Real Madrid last summer, but his impressive performances have attracted significant Premier League interest.
Real Madrid remain heavily involved in the negotiations due to clauses inserted into the original deal. The Spanish giants are entitled to 50% of the transfer value and also possess buy-back rights, although current reports indicate they are unlikely to activate that option, paving the way for Newcastle to complete the signing.
Newcastle Continue Monitoring Guéla Doué
Newcastle are also assessing options at right-back and remain admirers of Strasbourg defender Guéla Doué.
With Tino Livramento currently the club’s only established senior right-back, reinforcements are viewed as a priority. Doué has emerged as one of the leading candidates after an impressive campaign in Ligue 1, where he contributed two goals and seven assists in 34 appearances.
The 23-year-old Ivory Coast international is believed to be available for around £25 million and is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League. Newcastle scouts are expected to continue monitoring his progress during the World Cup.
Magpies Renew Interest in James Trafford
Newcastle have also revived their pursuit of Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford.
The Magpies have tracked Trafford for several years and have once again made contact regarding his availability, although formal negotiations have yet to begin.
Newcastle attempted to sign the England international before his return to Manchester City in 2025, with the goalkeeper having previously agreed personal terms. City ultimately activated their buy-back clause and brought him back to the Etihad.
Trafford’s future remains uncertain following Gianluigi Donnarumma’s arrival at Manchester City, and Newcastle remain alert should an opportunity arise later this summer.
With Jaouen already through the door and negotiations advancing for Victor Muñoz, Newcastle’s summer recruitment drive is beginning to gather momentum as Eddie Howe looks to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts next season.
