Abdulhafiz TeslimNewcastle United are among the clubs monitoring the progress of a highly-rated Switzerland international midfielder, whose impressive performances for both club and country have attracted attention from across Europe.
The Magpies are believed to be keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old after a breakthrough campaign that has seen him emerge as one of the most exciting young midfielders in European football. His stock has risen even further at the World Cup, where he has scored three goals in three appearances to help Switzerland finish top of their group and secure a place in the knockout stages.
Agent hints at possible summer transfer
The midfielder’s representative, Ismael Miller, previously suggested that a move could be considered after the conclusion of the domestic season and the World Cup, having already received interest from several clubs.
The youngster enjoyed a standout season in the Bundesliga, establishing himself as one of his club’s key performers as they secured European football and enjoyed an impressive continental campaign.
Speaking to Stile TV in November, via Tribal Football, Miller said: “The player’s priority is to continue the season where he’s doing very well. He wants to keep up the pace in the Bundesliga, then he’ll play in the World Cup with Switzerland if they qualify, and then we’ll see.
“So, before changing teams, we’ll think about it carefully. Of course, my phone is always ringing, I get interest, but the boy wants to stay calm, finish the season, play for Switzerland, and then we’ll see.
“Plan A remains continuity in the Bundesliga, but we all know football; if a significant offer comes in, I’m the first to evaluate it.
“We’re grateful to the club, but if an offer were to arrive that would allow the boy to develop, we would consider it, obviously also discussing it with the club.”
Newcastle keeping an eye on midfield market
The midfielder, who developed through the academy system at Servette before moving to Germany in 2023, is reportedly valued at around £42 million.
Newcastle’s interest comes amid ongoing speculation surrounding their midfield department ahead of the new season. While reports continue to link several of Eddie Howe’s current stars with moves away from St James’ Park, the club are also understood to be assessing potential long-term reinforcements.
With his performances on the world stage continuing to turn heads, one player who could become one of the summer’s most sought-after talents is none other than SC Freiburg and Switzerland midfielder Johan Manzambi.
