Newcastle United appear to be closing in on the signing of Spain winger Victor Munoz.

Elsewhere, reports suggest Liverpool currently lead the race for Traoré, meaning Newcastle could face stiff competition should their interest be genuine.

The Ivorian winger registered five goals and 12 assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season, attracting attention from several top clubs. Renowned for his explosive pace and direct style, the 20-year-old certainly fits the profile Newcastle admire. However, with Munoz seemingly on his way, questions remain over where Traoré would fit into the squad.

Bazoumana Traoré would be a good signing, but is he the priority?

Traoré was one of the wingers Newcastle were linked with before talks for Munoz accelerated, so there is a possibility that Bild’s information is based on earlier interest. Alternatively, Newcastle may still view the Hoffenheim star as a long-term option to strengthen their attacking depth.

Harvey Barnes has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, and if Newcastle are preparing for a potential departure, signing another left-sided forward would make more sense.

The challenge is that Traoré remains under contract with Hoffenheim until 2029 and reportedly has no release clause. With several clubs monitoring his situation, the Bundesliga side would be in a strong position to demand a significant transfer fee.
