Newcastle United have reportedly received an opening offer worth £10.4 million for one of their midfielders as the summer transfer window enters its final stages.
The Magpies are now facing an important decision over the future of the 26-year-old, who has entered the final 12 months of his current contract at St James’ Park. With Newcastle continuing to reshape their squad, his position in the first-team picture appears to have become increasingly uncertain.

The midfielder has fallen further down the pecking order following Newcastle’s moves for young talents Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba, while competition for places in the middle of the pitch is expected to become even stronger once the squad is fully settled.
According to reports from Turkey, Besiktas have now made their interest concrete by submitting an opening proposal.
Turkish outlet Spor Depor, through journalist Mustafa Karatas, claims the Super Lig club has offered a package worth €12 million, which translates to approximately £10.4 million.
The reported structure of the proposal is believed to be €7 million (£6.1m) upfront, with a further €5 million (£4.3m) potentially payable in bonuses and add-ons.
That would take the overall value of the proposal to around £10.4 million if all the conditions are met.
However, Newcastle are reportedly not satisfied with the offer and could demand considerably more before agreeing to let the player leave this summer.
Previous reports from Turkey had suggested that Newcastle would want around €23 million (£19.9m) for the midfielder. More recent claims, however, indicate that the club may now be prepared to accept a fee closer to €20 million, or approximately £17.3 million.
If those figures are accurate, Besiktas would therefore need to significantly improve their proposal if they want to get a deal over the line.
There is also a strong argument for Newcastle to consider a compromise.
With only one year remaining on his contract, this summer could represent the club’s final opportunity to secure a meaningful transfer fee. If no agreement is reached, Newcastle could find themselves in a difficult position during the January transfer window, with the player’s value potentially falling further.
There is also the possibility of losing him for nothing when his contract expires next summer.
The midfielder’s situation has also been complicated by persistent injury problems, which have prevented him from establishing himself consistently in Eddie Howe’s plans. Despite that, his versatility and ability to operate in an advanced midfield or No.10 role mean he could still attract interest from clubs looking for Premier League experience.
At 26, he remains at an age where a fresh challenge could potentially revive his career and provide him with the regular football he needs.
For Newcastle, the priority will now be deciding whether to hold firm on their valuation or negotiate with Besiktas to find a compromise.
A deal closer to £15 million could potentially satisfy both parties, but Besiktas will need to improve their opening package if they are serious about securing the signing.
For now, the reported £10.4m offer appears to fall short of Newcastle’s expectations, leaving the player’s future at St James’ Park unresolved with the transfer deadline rapidly approaching.
