The summer transfer window may have closed, but Newcastle United could already be facing another important decision when January arrives.
The Magpies endured a dramatic summer, with several major players leaving the club and the squad looking considerably different from the one that finished the previous campaign. Many supporters were worried about how the team would cope, with some even questioning whether Newcastle had enough quality to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.
However, the mood around St James’ Park has changed quickly.
Newcastle have made an unbeaten start to the campaign, winning three and drawing two across all competitions. More importantly, several players who were not necessarily expected to be central figures have stepped forward when the team needed them.

And that could now create a major problem for Newcastle in January.
One player who appeared destined to leave during the summer has completely changed the conversation with his performances. Rather than fading into the background, he has forced his way into Matthias Jaissle’s plans and has become one of the manager’s trusted options.
That has not gone unnoticed elsewhere.
Besiktas were among the clubs pushing for his signature during the recently closed transfer window, with reports suggesting the Turkish side made multiple approaches.
While Newcastle ultimately kept hold of the midfielder, it appears Besiktas are not ready to walk away.
According to Turkish-football, the Istanbul club have not abandoned their pursuit and are already laying the groundwork to reignite negotiations during the January transfer window.
That could put Newcastle in an interesting position.

The player in question is Joe Willock.
Willock entered the summer with his future at Newcastle looking uncertain. A departure appeared increasingly likely, and there was a feeling that the club could be prepared to move him on if the right offer arrived.
But his situation has changed dramatically.
The 27-year-old has started four of Newcastle’s five games so far this season, showing that Jaissle clearly sees value in what he can provide.
His performances have also given supporters something to think about.
Willock scored in Newcastle’s opening game against Liverpool before finding the net again against Millwall, with that second goal proving to be the winner.
It is a remarkable turnaround for a player who looked increasingly likely to leave only a few months ago.
Under Jaissle, Willock appears to have found a new lease of life. His energy, movement and ability to arrive in dangerous positions have given Newcastle another useful option in midfield at a time when the squad has lost significant quality.
That is why Besiktas returning in January could present a difficult decision for the Magpies.
Newcastle still need to strengthen their midfield, but selling a player who is currently performing well and trusted by the manager could create another problem rather than solve one.
There is also the question of Willock’s age.
At 27, he is entering the prime years of his career, meaning Newcastle could potentially benefit from keeping him rather than rushing to cash in.
A strong first half of the season could even change the conversation around his long-term future completely.
And if his current form continues, the possibility of a new contract could become increasingly realistic.
For now, Besiktas appear ready to wait.
But when January arrives, Newcastle may have a much bigger decision to make than anyone expected at the end of the summer window.
