adminNewcastle United have plans in place to tie up a sensational deadline day deal to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
The Lille star is set to fly to Tyneside later today to complete a move that will also result in Nick Woltemade leaving St James’ Park on loan, despite an initial stance of wanting to remain at the club.
Woltemade and his representatives have been in talks with Juventus over the weekend as the clubs iron out who will pay the majority of the German international’s wage packet. A loan fee will also be charged to Juventus for the hire of the 6ft 6in forward.
Juventus have jumped ahead of Napoli in the queue for Woltemade while there was also interest from Atletico Madrid. But he could be Turin-bound as Newcastle’s record signing looks ahead to a stint in Serie A.
But it will be the news for Lille star that will excite the Geordie fans, as the £51m deal is close to completion. The forward only signed a five-year deal with Lille in 2024 and the Ligue 1 club don’t want to sell, but the player is desperate to ply his trade in the Premier League.
As for Woltemade, the talks between Juve and Newcastle eventually got under way today officially. Those negotiations remain ongoing but ideally Woltemade would leave to facilitate Fernandez-Pardo’s arrival.
Mathias Jaissle had told Chronicle Live: “I am not a coach who will take part in media rumours. Nick is a part of the squad, we have a strong squad and we want to be selective in the transfer market with a couple of days left.”
Paying tribute to the transfer chief who could put the icing on the cake on deadline day, Jaissle said: “We know our needs.
“Ross is doing an amazing job. We have a couple of days left and will not panic and do something crazy without everyone believing it’s the right decision. That’s the most important thing, on a management and leadership level that we’re all aligned.”
