🚨 HERE WE GO: Newcastle United COMPLETE Huge Signing as Star Arrives at St James Park — Jaissle Gets His Man!

Newcastle United are closing in on one of their biggest moves of the summer after reaching an agreement with Manchester City for a midfielder who could arrive at St James’ Park at exactly the right time.

The Magpies have been looking to add more experience to their midfield following the departures of Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali, and the club have now moved quickly to address the problem.

The player is Nico González.

Newcastle have agreed a deal worth around £52 million, with £48m understood to be guaranteed and a further £4m potentially payable in add-ons. The 24-year-old has also been given permission to travel to the North East for his medical.

For Newcastle, this is a deal that has been building for several days. Talks with City accelerated over the weekend before the two clubs finally found an agreement.

Why González?

Newcastle’s midfield has changed dramatically this summer.

Guimarães has left for Arsenal, while Tonali has also moved on, leaving Matthias Jaissle with a much younger group of midfield options.

Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba have already been given opportunities, but adding a player with González’s experience gives Jaissle another option who can handle the demands of Premier League football.

González is still only 24, but he already has experience at Porto and Manchester City. He joined City in January 2025 and made 54 appearances for the club, although he never fully established himself as a regular starter.

That lack of guaranteed game time has now opened the door for Newcastle.

Jaissle gets the player he wanted

The move also gives Jaissle an important boost.

Newcastle’s new head coach has been tasked with rebuilding a squad that has lost several important players, and midfield was clearly one area that needed attention.

González should give the manager more flexibility, particularly when it comes to controlling games and rotating his midfield options.

There is also the possibility that his arrival could lead to another change within the squad.

Joe Willock has attracted interest from Besiktas, and Newcastle are reportedly considering their options with the midfielder’s future now less certain.

Another signing before the deadline?

The González deal will take Newcastle’s summer spending beyond the £200m mark, although the club have also generated significant money through player sales.

But the work may not be finished.

Newcastle have continued to look at attacking options, meaning supporters could still see another arrival before the September 1 deadline.

For now, though, the focus is on González.

If everything goes to plan with his medical and the remaining paperwork, Newcastle will have secured an experienced midfielder from one of their Premier League rivals.

And after losing two of their most important midfielders this summer, that could prove to be one of Jaissle’s most important additions of the window.
