Sky Sports: Newcastle Receive HUGE BOOST as £50M Man City Star AGREES to Jaissle Move — DEAL NOW IMMINENT!

Newcastle United are edging closer to completing another major signing as Matthias Jaissle looks set to strengthen his midfield options before the summer transfer window closes.

Reports emerging on Monday suggest that Newcastle are now increasingly confident of reaching an agreement with Manchester City for midfielder Nico González, with the deal potentially worth around £50 million.

Although the transfer has not yet been officially completed, there is growing optimism at St James’ Park that González could become Newcastle’s seventh summer signing.

The latest update came from The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, who reported that Newcastle are closing in on the Manchester City midfielder, with a framework for the deal reportedly already in place. He also indicated that discussions over a deal worth around £50m are continuing, with Newcastle still hoping to make several additions before the window shuts.

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has also provided a positive update, reporting that Newcastle are advancing in negotiations with Manchester City and that there is hope an agreement can be reached this week. González is understood to be valued at approximately £50m and, crucially, the player is reportedly open to a move to St James’ Park.

That could prove decisive for Newcastle, particularly with Jaissle looking to add a holding midfielder with Premier League experience to his squad.

Manchester City Finally Ready to Let González Leave

Manchester City’s position appears to have changed significantly in recent days.

González had reportedly been kept at the Etihad while City worked on their own midfield recruitment. However, City have now agreed a huge deal to sign highly-rated Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, with the transfer reportedly worth €100m (£85.6m) including potential bonuses.

That move has helped clear the path for González to leave Manchester City.

The Spanish midfielder has found his opportunities increasingly limited at City. He was left on the bench for their recent Premier League victory over Bournemouth and was not introduced despite City needing a late goal to turn the match around.

That situation has further fuelled speculation that his time at the Etihad is coming to an end.

González joined Manchester City from Porto in February 2025 for around £52m. Since arriving in England, the 24-year-old has made 41 appearances across all competitions, including 25 Premier League appearances last season.

A Major Boost for Jaissle

For Newcastle, the potential arrival would represent an important addition to a midfield that has undergone significant changes during the summer.

The club have already seen several important players depart, making midfield reinforcement particularly important. González could provide additional defensive protection, energy and technical quality in the centre of the pitch while also offering valuable Premier League experience.

Reports suggest Jaissle is particularly keen on adding a player capable of operating in a holding midfield role, and González fits that requirement.

The proposed move would also give Newcastle another option alongside Lewis Miley, with reports suggesting the club could look to develop a midfield partnership between the young Englishman and González.

However, despite the increasingly positive reports, Newcastle supporters will have to wait before celebrating.

The deal is not officially done yet, and negotiations between Newcastle and Manchester City still need to be completed. Nevertheless, the latest developments represent one of the strongest indications so far that González could soon be heading to St James’ Park.

If Newcastle manage to complete the agreement, González would become the club’s seventh signing of the summer and another major piece of Jaissle’s rebuilding project.

With the transfer window rapidly approaching its conclusion, Newcastle now appear determined to get the deal over the line.
