Newcastle United are bracing themselves for an extremely busy final fortnight of the summer transfer window, with the club expected to remain active in the market as Matthias Jaissle continues to shape his squad for the new campaign.

According to the latest update from Keith Downie, Newcastle could be in for a “crazy” finish to the window, with the expectation that the Magpies could bring in at least three more players. The club have already strengthened their squad with the £29.5 million arrival of Amar Dedic on Tuesday, but further additions are reportedly being targeted, particularly in midfield and attack.
Amid the growing transfer activity, Newcastle have now been linked with an intriguing young talent from Turkey.
Newcastle ‘in talks’ for Ousmane Diabate
Reports emerging from Turkey claim that Newcastle United are in discussions over a potential move for Gençlerbirliği midfielder Ousmane Diabate.
Spor Depor reporter Resat Can Ozbudak has reported that Newcastle are exploring a deal for the highly rated 18-year-old defensive midfielder, who has already represented Guinea at international level.
Diabate has attracted attention after progressing through Gençlerbirliği’s youth system and making eight senior appearances last season. His performances have reportedly caught the attention of several clubs, with Premier League sides Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur also previously credited with an interest.
Standing at around 6ft 1in, Diabate possesses the physical profile expected of a modern defensive midfielder. He has already demonstrated his willingness to compete at senior level and recently earned a starting role in Gençlerbirliği’s opening Super Lig fixture of the 2026/27 season.
The youngster started against Turkish giants Fenerbahce on Saturday and helped his side secure an impressive 2-1 victory.
Newcastle continuing their project strategy
A potential move for Diabate would raise questions given Newcastle’s recent recruitment of young midfielders, including 20-year-old Aladji Bamba and 18-year-old Sean Steur.
However, the reported interest fits perfectly with the club’s wider recruitment strategy under sporting director Ross Wilson. Newcastle are increasingly looking beyond established first-team players and are also attempting to identify young prospects who could develop into valuable senior players in the future.
The club have already followed a similar approach with 17-year-old Ecuadorian winger Johan Martinez and 19-year-old striker Afner Ca, who joined from Spanish side Levante last month.
Martinez was recently spotted on Tyneside, visiting St James’ Park with his team. However, Newcastle supporters will have to wait before seeing him in black and white, as the winger is expected to remain with Independiente del Valle for the coming season before joining Newcastle after turning 18 in May 2027.
That recruitment model is becoming increasingly important in the modern financial landscape. With Profit and Sustainability Rules and Squad Cost Rules placing greater restrictions on clubs, Newcastle must balance expensive first-team recruitment with younger, lower-cost players who could potentially become major assets.
The reported Diabate talks therefore represent another example of Newcastle looking towards the future while simultaneously attempting to strengthen Jaissle’s squad for the present.
With at least two weeks remaining in the transfer window, the Magpies could still have plenty more surprises in store. If Downie’s prediction proves correct, Newcastle supporters may be heading towards one of the busiest finishes to a summer window in recent years.
