Russell Martin has named the Leicester City players that will be Leaving his team in the next hours after what happened before Leicester City Clash against Burton

Nathan Opoku has left Leicester City and joined League Two side Northampton Town on a permanent basis.

The striker, 25, joined the Foxes in January 2023 after an impressive spell with Ventura County Fusion. He was immediately loaned out to Belgian sister club OH Leuven, where he scored five goals in 28 games.

After suffering a double leg fracture in April 2024, he returned to Leicester before completing a loan move to Newport County.

Opoku enjoyed a good first half of the season and extended his stay at Rodney Parade, helping keep Christian Fuchs’ side in the English Football League with six goals.

Stephy Mavididi and Wout Faes will remain out of Leicester City’s squad for this weekend’s League One clash against Burton Albion, Russell Martin has confirmed.

The winger and centre-back were notable absences from the Foxes’ squad at Notts County last weekend. Martin revealed before and after the draw in Nottingham that their exclusion was down to transfer interest in the pair.

Martin went on to confirm that the club had rejected bids for both players, with their futures still expected to be resolved before the window closes on September 1.

Both players have continued to train with the first-team squad this week and Martin has repeatedly praised their professionalism. But despite remaining available to train, neither will be involved against Burton as Leicester continue to plan for life without them.

Asked if the situation had changed and whether the pair could be considered for Burton, Martin said: “No, I don’t think anything changes, being respectful to their situation and ours. So no, they’ll be training in the morning with a group that’s not involved, training hard.

“And if we need to use them over the next couple of weeks, they’re more than ready and they respect that and understand that. But I think we’ve just been really open, honest with each other and I think they’re respectful of the decision we’ve made as well. We’ll see.”

The Leicester boss, though, confirmed that no new bids had come in for either player, or Louis Page.

“No, all quiet,” he said. “There’s been a lot of discussions, a lot of talks and a lot of enquiries.

“I told you we turned a bid down for Louis Page and since then, I don’t think there’s been any like official bids made. But of course, in this part of the transfer window, there’s so many discussions ongoing.

“What I would say is the guys who probably look likely to leave, they’ve been amazing. Like really top in the way they’ve trained, really professional. So their respect for the club, for themselves, for us and what we’re doing has been immense. Like I said, that will continue.

“Then if someone ends up staying, who maybe we’ve planned and they’ve planned to move on, if they end up staying, I’ll be really happy.”
