🚨BOMBSHELL: Match of the Day AXES SIX FAMILIAR PUNDITS as HUGE New Line-Up Is Revealed for 2026/27 Season!

The BBC has announced a revamped Match of the Day line-up for the 2026/27 season, with six familiar pundits absent from the initial list compared with last season.

Dion Dublin, Martin Keown, Nedum Onuoha, Theo Walcott, Shay Given and Stephen Warnock are not included in the latest line-up announced by the broadcaster.

However, their absence does not necessarily mean they have left the BBC’s football coverage altogether. Express Sport reports that all six are still expected to play a role in the BBC’s football coverage this season, with contract discussions reportedly continuing.

Keown is perhaps the most notable name missing from the initial list. The former Arsenal defender has been a regular part of Match of the Day coverage since 2007 and has become one of the programme’s most recognisable pundits.

Dublin has also been a familiar face on the BBC for more than a decade. The former Premier League striker and Homes Under the Hammer presenter first joined the Match of the Day punditry line-up during the 2012/13 season.

Despite the changes, the BBC has retained a number of its biggest names.

Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates will once again share presenting duties after taking over the role following Gary Lineker’s departure from Match of the Day.

The broadcaster has also introduced new voices to its rotating group of guests. Toby Alderweireld, Robbie Keane, Ashley Young and Thomas Frank have been added to the programme’s group of contributors, while established names including Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart, Micah Richards, Ellen White, Steph Houghton, Danny Murphy and Ashley Williams remain involved.

The changes come amid reports that some Match of the Day pundits had considered moving their football work elsewhere, including Gary Lineker’s The Rest Is Football podcast.

Shearer and Richards have previously divided their time between the BBC and Lineker’s football coverage, including during the World Cup. Reports have also suggested that disagreements took place between BBC head of sport Alex Kay-Jelski and some members of the Match of the Day team.

The BBC has strongly rejected those claims.

The broadcaster said the reports were based on anonymous claims that it considered untrue, while insisting that Match of the Day would return with its established presenters and pundits alongside new guest voices.

The BBC is also planning to expand its football coverage beyond the traditional television programme.

A new fan collective will represent supporters of all 20 Premier League clubs, with content creators also being brought into the broadcaster’s wider football coverage.

The BBC has announced four new YouTube shows, with content expected to feature across the BBC Sport app’s Shorts feed and the BBC Football YouTube channel.

According to the BBC, the aim is to place supporters more firmly at the centre of the football conversation and provide fans with different ways of engaging with the game.

BBC director of sport Alex Kay-Jelski said football means something different to every supporter and explained that the broadcaster wants to combine the expertise of former players and managers with the opinions and personalities of fans.

The revamped approach means viewers can expect a mixture of established Match of the Day coverage, new punditry voices, supporter-led content and additional digital programming throughout the 2026/27 campaign.

For many viewers, however, the biggest talking point will remain the familiar faces who are missing from the initial pundit list.

With negotiations reportedly ongoing, there is still a possibility that some of those absent from the announced line-up could feature during the season.

For now, the BBC appears to be moving forward with a refreshed Match of the Day operation while maintaining many of the personalities who have made the programme a staple of Premier League weekends.

The new season will therefore provide a mixture of continuity and change, with established presenters and pundits joined by fresh voices as the BBC looks to modernise its football coverage for the 2026/27 campaign.
