Newcastle United READY To Make HUGE Midfield Upgrade As They CLOSE IN On Barcelona Midfielder To BOOST Creativity — Another SMART Transfer Move! 😱

Newcastle United have needed to strengthen their midfield for weeks, with the area having been significantly affected by the departures of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

Those were arguably two of the club’s most important players, with their departures bringing in a combined £175 million.

The Magpies have already added young midfield talents such as 18-year-old Sean Steur and 20-year-old Aladji Bamba. They have also agreed a deal for another 18-year-old midfielder, Ousmane Diabate, who will remain on loan at Genclerbirligi for another year after securing a 4+1-year agreement with Newcastle.

However, Newcastle appear to be taking another major step in their midfield rebuild, with the club now closing in on Barcelona youngster Guille Fernández.

Barcelona youngster Guille Fernández is currently close to completing a move to Newcastle United.

Albert Fernández reports that the 18-year-old central midfielder is closing in on a switch to St James’ Park this summer.

The journalist reports that Barcelona are currently working on transfers involving young players, with these deals including the option for the Catalan club to buy them back in the future.

One of the players at the top of that list is Guille Fernández, who is currently ‘close to a move to Newcastle’, while his fellow Barcelona youngster Toni Fernández is being courted by Bayer Leverkusen, with other clubs also interested in his signature.

Newcastle United’s interest in Guille Fernández is nothing new either.

Sport Witness covered a report in January explaining that Newcastle United were making a significant effort to sign the midfielder.

At the time, the Magpies had made several enquiries about his potential availability. Barcelona were not keen on allowing the deal to happen at that point, but it appears that the situation has now changed.

Albert Fernández makes no mention of the figures involved in the current deal. Transfermarkt value the youngster at €3 million.

Guille Fernández could be another important midfield addition

For those who do not know who Guille Fernández is, he is a product of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy.

The midfielder has played for the Catalans at various youth levels, featuring for the U16s, U18s and Barça Atlètic sides over the last four years.

He has racked up 68 appearances for those groups but is yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for Barcelona.

However, Fernández did spend the entirety of pre-season last year working under Hansi Flick. He also travelled on Barcelona’s Asian tour and made his senior debut during that period.

His progress was then interrupted by an ankle injury in September.

Now, he appears to be on the verge of moving to Newcastle United, who have revived their previous interest from the January transfer window.

The potential arrival of Fernández would give Newcastle another highly rated young midfielder to develop, while the club continues to reshape its midfield following the departures of Guimaraes and Tonali.

With the Magpies already completing a deal for talented youngsters and now closing in on a Barcelona academy product, Newcastle are clearly building for the future while continuing to look for ways to improve the quality and creativity of their midfield.
