Fabrizio Romano confirms Newcastle United have Discussed Move To Sign This ‘incredible’ player who raises the squad’s baseline, A natural leader that will Revitalise the team — Smart move Ahead of Man United

The Magpies have already brought in six new faces this summer, with Ewen Jaouen and Lukas Hornicek strengthening the goalkeeping department, Amar Dedic adding depth to the defence, Aladji Bamba and Seun Steur joining the midfield, and Bazoumana Toure arriving in attack.

However, Newcastle’s midfield has undergone a major transformation following the departures of Sandro Tonali and captain Bruno Guimaraes. With several of their new additions still young and relatively inexperienced, Jaissle is keen to bring greater quality, experience and leadership into the middle of the pitch.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have discussed the possibility of signing the Cameroon international as they assess their options before the transfer window closes on September 1.

The 22-year-old would provide the Magpies with a powerful presence in midfield, combining physicality, defensive ability and progressive qualities.

His arrival could raise the overall baseline of Jaissle’s squad and give Newcastle another player capable of making a major difference in difficult matches.

There is also the added attraction of potentially beating Manchester United to his signature.

United have admired Baleba for some time and were heavily linked with a move for him last summer. However, their interest has cooled amid Brighton’s huge valuation of the midfielder, potentially giving Newcastle an opportunity to move ahead of their Premier League rivals.

Brighton are reportedly prepared to consider a deal worth around £65m, a figure Newcastle could potentially afford after generating more than £240m from player sales this summer.

For Newcastle, Baleba would therefore represent more than simply another midfield addition. With Bruno Guimaraes and Tonali no longer part of the squad, the Magpies need players capable of restoring authority and personality to the centre of the team.

Baleba may still be only 22, meaning he cannot immediately be described as the finished article or the natural leader of Newcastle’s dressing room, but his character, physical presence and ability could make him an important figure in Jaissle’s rebuilding project.

Newcastle are also pursuing other midfield options, with Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha attracting strong interest from the club, while an enquiry has been made to RB Leipzig regarding Nico Seiwald.

‘Incredible’ Baleba Could Revitalise Newcastle’s Midfield

Baleba’s performances at Brighton have made him one of the most sought-after young midfielders in the Premier League, despite a difficult campaign in which his consistency dipped.

His underlying ability, however, remains obvious, and Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has previously praised the midfielder’s development while describing his ability as “incredible.”

Hurzeler said:

«”I’m confident that we will get the best out of him, I think he needs time, he’s a young boy, his development in the last year was incredible.”»

He added:

«”Maybe it went a little bit too fast, there was a lot of rumours about him, he played an incredible season, but I always try to be humble with the players.”»

That belief in Baleba’s potential is precisely why Newcastle could see him as a player capable of raising the level of their midfield for years to come.

The Magpies have lost several senior figures this summer, making leadership and experience increasingly important under Jaissle.

Baleba’s age means he would not necessarily solve that problem on his own, but his physical presence, personality and growing Premier League experience could help Newcastle rebuild a midfield that has been dramatically altered.

A move would also send a significant message to Manchester United.

If Newcastle can convince Brighton to sell and beat United to one of their long-standing midfield targets, Baleba could become one of the most important pieces of Jaissle’s rebuild.

There is still work to do before any deal can be considered imminent, but with Newcastle having already discussed the possibility internally, Baleba is certainly a name to watch closely before the September 1 deadline.

If the Magpies can get the deal over the line, it could prove to be a smart move that gives Jaissle the midfield power, personality and quality needed to revitalise Newcastle’s team.
