BREAKING NEWS 🚨 – Sky Sports pundit reacts after Newcastle United agree imminent transfer done deal for experienced star

Newcastle United have stepped up their midfield recruitment and are closing in on a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Nicolas Seiwald, with the Austria international emerging as a serious target at St James’ Park.

The 25-year-old is understood to be on Newcastle’s shortlist as the club continues reshaping its midfield under new head coach Matthias Jaissle following the departure of Bruno Guimaraes.

Seiwald’s experience and versatility have made him an attractive option for Newcastle, with the midfielder capable of operating in several positions and offering the kind of reliability the Magpies are seeking.

His potential arrival has also received strong backing from a Sky Sports pundit, who described Seiwald as a “very solid and experienced” player and suggested that bringing him to Newcastle would be a smart piece of business.

The pundit added that Newcastle are “making a habit” of identifying experienced players who can strengthen the squad, further highlighting why Seiwald could fit the club’s current recruitment strategy.

Newcastle have already explored other midfield options this summer. The club reportedly failed to persuade Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to leave Marseille, while discussions over Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha have also been taking place.

However, Seiwald appears to have emerged as another option being seriously considered by Newcastle’s recruitment department.

There is also a strong connection between Seiwald and Jaissle. The pair previously worked together at Red Bull Salzburg, where Seiwald became an important member of the team that won the Austrian title under the current Newcastle head coach.

That familiarity could be particularly useful for Jaissle as he attempts to build a new-look Newcastle squad capable of adapting quickly to his methods.

Newcastle have already brought in another former Jaissle player this summer, with Amar Dedic joining the club. A move for Seiwald would therefore reunite Jaissle with another player he knows extremely well.

While Newcastle have yet to complete the deal, the club are understood to be gathering information on what it would take to bring the Austrian midfielder to St James’ Park before deciding which midfield target to pursue most aggressively.

Seiwald’s versatility is another major attraction. He can play as a defensive midfielder, operate in a box-to-box role and has even been used at centre-back when required.

For a Newcastle side undergoing a major rebuild, that flexibility could make him an extremely valuable addition.

With the new Premier League season approaching, Newcastle are continuing to work on strengthening the midfield, and Seiwald’s experience, tactical versatility and previous relationship with Jaissle could make him one of the most logical additions to the squad.
