🚨 JUST IN: Newcastle Launch SHOCK Raid for Tottenham Star as Fabrizio Romano Confirms STAR PLAYER Remains on Magpies’ List!

Newcastle United have stepped up their search for a new midfield leader following Bruno Guimarães’ departure to Arsenal, with the Magpies now seriously considering a highly-rated Tottenham midfielder as they look to rebuild the heart of their squad.

The 20-year-old midfielder has emerged as one of the names attracting significant attention at St James’ Park, with Newcastle’s recruitment team reportedly holding discussions over whether he could become the club’s next major midfield addition.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the player remains on Newcastle’s shortlist as the club assesses its options alongside new head coach Matthias Jaissle.

The identity of the player is Lucas Bergvall, the Sweden international who joined Tottenham after making a name for himself as one of Europe’s most promising young midfielders.

Romano has revealed that Bergvall continues to be discussed internally by Newcastle, with the club now determining exactly what type of midfielder Jaissle wants to bring into his squad.

Speaking on the GIVEMESPORT Market Madness podcast, Romano explained that Bergvall is one of several midfielders being considered by Newcastle.

“The conversation is ongoing with the coach Matthias Jaissle,” Romano said. “One of the players they appreciated, for example, is Lucas Bergvall. They were looking at him because he might leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window. He’s a player who was already approved by Eddie Howe.”

The comments indicate that Newcastle’s interest in Bergvall is not simply a leftover from the previous regime. Instead, the midfielder appears to have remained relevant as the club begins shaping its recruitment plans under Jaissle.

Newcastle are expected to hold further discussions before deciding which midfielder should become their main priority.

Romano added: “Let’s see now with the new coach, Matthias Jaissle. Over the next two to three days, they will have more meetings and decide which kind of player they want to add to their squad.”

While Bergvall is not Newcastle’s only option, Romano believes the club is almost certain to strengthen the midfield following Guimarães’ departure.

“Bergvall could be an option, not the only one, but I’m sure Newcastle will do something in that position because obviously they lost Bruno and they need a top midfielder, so they are working on that for sure.”

Newcastle’s interest has already reportedly gone beyond initial scouting, with the Magpies making an opening proposal of around £46 million for Bergvall.

However, that offer was rejected by Tottenham, meaning there is currently no completed transfer between the two clubs.

Newcastle could nevertheless return with an improved proposal if the club decides that the Swedish midfielder is the right player for Jaissle’s project.

Bergvall’s situation at Tottenham has also added another layer of intrigue to the transfer story.

The 20-year-old has reportedly told Tottenham that he wants to leave this summer in search of more consistent first-team football. That development could potentially encourage Newcastle to step up their pursuit.

Tottenham, however, are not expected to make the decision easy.

Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi has publicly praised Bergvall and made it clear that he would prefer the midfielder to remain in north London.

“I would like that he stays with us. I think he’s potentially a top, top, top player,” De Zerbi said. “But then I don’t want to convince anyone to stay.”

Those comments could prove significant if Newcastle return with another bid.

Tottenham must now decide whether to continue their long-term development of one of their brightest young players or consider a substantial offer from Newcastle.

For the Magpies, the need for midfield reinforcements is clear.

Guimarães has completed his move to Arsenal, leaving Newcastle with a significant void in the centre of the pitch. The Brazilian provided technical quality, creativity, ball progression and leadership, meaning whoever eventually replaces him will face enormous expectations.

Bergvall would not necessarily be a direct like-for-like replacement. However, his technical ability, composure and potential could make him an attractive long-term investment.

Newcastle also have alternative midfield targets, with names such as Felix Nmecha, Angelo Stiller, Victor Froholdt and former Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg reportedly linked with the club.

That means Bergvall is not guaranteed to become Newcastle’s next major signing.

Jaissle’s opinion could ultimately determine whether the Magpies return with another bid or decide to pursue a different profile.

The coming weeks could therefore be crucial.

Newcastle are searching for a new midfield leader, Tottenham are facing a difficult decision over one of their most highly-rated young talents, and Bergvall’s future could become one of the more intriguing transfer stories of the summer.

For now, the key point is that Newcastle have not completed a £63 million deal.

Instead, the Magpies have reportedly seen an opening bid of around £46 million rejected, while Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Bergvall remains among the midfield options being considered by Newcastle.

If Jaissle decides that the Swedish midfielder is the right man for his project, another Newcastle approach could soon follow.

Would you like Newcastle to make another big push for the Tottenham midfielder, or should Jaissle choose a more experienced replacement for Guimarães?
