Newcastle READY to launch FIRST 0fficial bid

Newcastle United have been monitoring Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha for some time and are now preparing to take their interest to the next level.

The Magpies have maintained a long-standing interest in the Germany international, and that pursuit has continued into the current transfer window. Newcastle are now looking to make concrete progress as they assess their midfield options and attempt to strengthen Matthias Jaissle’s squad.

Two months ago, reports emerged that both Newcastle and Manchester United were interested in Nmecha. The two Premier League clubs were said to be monitoring the midfielder’s situation, with both sides evaluating the possibility of making a move.

On Aug 8, Sportyville relayed claims from Germany suggesting that Newcastle and Manchester United were ‘leading the charge’ for the Dortmund midfielder. Those reports placed the two English clubs at the front of the race as speculation surrounding Nmecha’s future continued.

Now, Sky Deutschland has provided a fresh update on Newcastle’s pursuit, with the report suggesting that the Magpies are prepared to advance their interest.

According to the latest information, Newcastle have already held initial discussions with Nmecha’s representatives and now ‘intend to submit’ an offer for the midfielder. The amount Newcastle could put forward has not been disclosed, but the development represents a significant step forward in their pursuit.

Nmecha remains under contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2030, while Transfermarkt currently values the midfielder at around €55 million.

The report also claims that Nmecha has ambitions of eventually playing in the Premier League, with Newcastle viewed as one of the clubs capable of offering him that opportunity. That could work in the Magpies’ favour if they decide to push ahead with a formal proposal.

Newcastle’s interest has continued despite the managerial change at St James’ Park. Matthias Jaissle has replaced Eddie Howe, who was reportedly a big admirer of Nmecha. There is currently no clear indication of Jaissle’s personal stance on the midfielder, but Newcastle’s interest appears to have remained intact.

However, convincing Dortmund to sell will be another major challenge.

The German club are reluctant to part ways with the 24-year-old this summer and would prefer to keep the Germany international in their squad. Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has previously indicated that a departure would be extremely unlikely unless an extraordinary offer arrives.

“I would consider that extremely unlikely. Of course, theoretically, astronomical sums can always come up, but I think I can pretty much rule that out for Nmecha this summer,” Kehl said.

His comments effectively leave only a small possibility of Nmecha leaving during the current transfer window.

Reports claim Dortmund would demand more than €100 million to €120 million before seriously considering a sale this summer. Nmecha previously had a release clause that was valid for this summer, but that clause has now expired. A new release clause reportedly worth €80 million will become relevant next summer.

That situation means Newcastle may have to pay a substantial premium if they want to convince Dortmund to negotiate immediately.

The Magpies have already strengthened their midfield options during the transfer window, with Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba arriving. Nevertheless, Newcastle continue to explore the possibility of adding Nmecha to Jaissle’s squad before the transfer window closes.

The club are reportedly in a position to finance the operation, particularly following significant transfer activity. Newcastle have sold Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon and are also on the verge of Bruno Guimarães’ proposed move to Arsenal, potentially giving the club additional resources to pursue another major signing.

However, any deal for Nmecha would still require Newcastle to satisfy both sides of the equation: convincing the player that St James’ Park is the right destination and presenting Dortmund with an offer capable of changing their position.

With initial talks already held with the midfielder’s representatives and Newcastle reportedly preparing an offer, the coming days could provide a clearer indication of just how serious the Magpies are about bringing the Dortmund star to the Premier League.
