Newcastle United have reportedly identified Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha (25) as one of their top transfer targets should Bruno Guimarães complete a move to Arsenal. According to L’Équipe, the Magpies have made strengthening their midfield a priority and see the Germany international as an ideal replacement.
Newcastle are said to be actively assessing their midfield options, with Nmecha emerging as one of the leading names on the club’s shortlist. Initial discussions are understood to have taken place, giving the Premier League side a clearer understanding of Borussia Dortmund’s valuation and the conditions required for any potential transfer.

Manchester United and Manchester City, Nmecha’s former club, have also been linked with the midfielder, meaning Newcastle could face strong competition if they decide to pursue a deal.
The Magpies have already strengthened their squad this summer with the signing of Aladji Bamba from AS Monaco, but further additions remain under consideration as they prepare for the new campaign. Any move for Nmecha will still depend on negotiations between the clubs and whether an agreement can be reached.
Nmecha remains under contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2030 and is regarded as a player whose profile matches what Newcastle are looking for in midfield. His blend of physicality, technical ability and top-level experience has reportedly made him one of the club’s preferred options.
The Germany international enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, starting 36 of his 42 appearances across all competitions while scoring five goals and providing three assists. He also impressed on the international stage after starting all four of Germany’s World Cup matches, contributing one goal and two assists during the tournament.
Those performances for both club and country have only strengthened Newcastle’s interest, with Nmecha now emerging as one of the Magpies’ leading midfield targets should Guimarães depart St James’ Park this summer.
