Breaking: Matthias Jaissle’s Newcastle Announcement Date Emerges After £9.5m Financial Hit

Newcastle United are yet to officially announce Matthias Jaissle’s appointment as Eddie Howe’s successor.

Newcastle United have paid £9.5 million to activate Matthias Jaissle’s release clause at Al-Ahli.

It is the worst-kept secret in football that the German coach will replace Eddie Howe at St James’ Park. At the time of writing, the Magpies have yet to officially announce Jaissle as their new manager.

Howe stepped down on Thursday, with the club confirming his decision 24 hours later. Jaissle has already linked up with the first-team squad in Spain as Newcastle supporters await an official announcement.

Matthias Jaissle release clause

Newcastle have paid £9.5 million to trigger Jaissle’s release clause, despite both Newcastle United and Al-Ahli being owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Al-Ahli wanted to keep Jaissle, but the opportunity to manage in the Premier League proved too good to turn down. The 38-year-old is expected to oversee a youthful Newcastle squad during a rebuilding phase following the departures of high-profile players such as Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.

Bruno Guimarães could also leave the club amid reported interest from Arsenal. He has yet to begin his pre-season preparations, with Newcastle expecting him to report on Monday.

Eddie Howe’s farewell message

Speaking after his departure, Howe told the club’s official website:

> “After nearly five years of giving my life, heart and soul into the club with unrelenting energy, I feel that it is in the best interests of both myself and the club to step away, recharge and take a break.

> “Although it’s been incredibly difficult to make this decision, I know in my heart that it’s the right one. It has been the privilege of my lifetime to have been the manager of Newcastle United.

> “There have been so many incredible moments in our time here. From fighting relegation in our first season to the numerous unforgettable nights at St James’ Park in the Champions League soon after. The progression was fast.

> “Everyone came together, united, and what a force we became. These are all memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
