Abdulhafiz TeslimNewcastle United have secured a major addition to their squad after reaching a full agreement to sign highly-rated Czech goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek from Portuguese side SC Braga. The transfer is now considered complete after the Magpies agreed to trigger the goalkeeper’s €30 million release clause, with all parties now in agreement.
The 23-year-old is expected to travel to Tyneside later this week to undergo his medical examinations before signing a long-term contract at St James’ Park. Once those formalities are completed, Newcastle will officially unveil Hornicek as their newest signing.
The deal marks another important step in Newcastle’s summer rebuild as the club continues strengthening key areas ahead of the new Premier League campaign. Hornicek has been identified as one of Europe’s most promising young goalkeepers after producing a series of outstanding performances for Braga. His commanding presence in the penalty area, excellent reflexes, calm distribution and confidence with the ball at his feet have attracted attention from several clubs across Europe.
Newcastle have been monitoring the Czech international for some time and believe he has all the qualities needed to become the club’s long-term first-choice goalkeeper. While Nick Pope has been a reliable servant, the Magpies have been searching for additional competition and a goalkeeper capable of leading the team for years to come.
Braga were aware that Hornicek’s future could be decided by his release clause, and once Newcastle activated the €30 million figure, there was little the Portuguese club could do to prevent the transfer. Discussions over the player’s personal terms progressed smoothly, allowing the move to be completed quickly.
Hornicek now arrives with high expectations. His ability to dominate aerial balls, organise his defence and build attacks from the back makes him an ideal fit for Newcastle’s style of play. Club officials are confident they have signed one of the brightest goalkeeping talents available on the market.
Supporters will now eagerly await the official announcement, which is expected shortly after the player completes his medical and signs his contract. The signing represents another statement of intent from Newcastle as they continue to build a squad capable of challenging at the highest level.
With the agreement now in place and only the final paperwork remaining, Lukas Hornicek’s move to Newcastle United is effectively a done deal. The Magpies have landed one of Europe’s most exciting young goalkeepers, and fans will be hoping he can become a key figure between the posts for many seasons to come.
