BREAKING NEWS: Newcastle United Confirm Major Announcement As Highly-Rated Star Officially Puts Pen To Paper

Newcastle United are continuing their ambitious squad rebuild ahead of the 2026/27 season, with the Magpies pushing ahead with a new transfer strategy focused on securing some of the world’s most exciting young talents.

The club has entered a new era following major changes to Eddie Howe’s squad, including the record-breaking departures of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur in a £100 million deal and Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona for a package worth around £80 million.

With Newcastle looking to refresh their squad, attention has now turned towards bringing in elite young players capable of becoming future stars at St James’ Park.

The Magpies’ recruitment approach has shifted significantly, with Sporting Director Ross Wilson targeting high-potential talents from across Europe and South America rather than spending heavily on established Premier League names.

Newcastle United academy star Mason Miley has signed his first professional contract with the club, describing the moment as a “proud moment” after committing his future to his boyhood side.

The 17-year-old midfielder, who can also operate at full-back, joined Newcastle’s Academy at under-9 level and has progressed through the club’s youth system before putting pen to paper on his maiden professional deal.

Miley is eager to follow in the footsteps of his older brothers, Lewis and Jamie, who have both reached senior football, with Lewis currently part of Newcastle United’s first-team squad.

“It’s a proud moment after being at the club from such a young age. It is my boyhood club and I like the way the club is going forward,” Miley said.

“Lewis and Jamie have been through it and are both in the professional game. Lewis is in Newcastle’s first team, so hopefully I can follow in his footsteps in the future.

“To play with Lewis in a Newcastle United shirt for the first team is one of my ultimate goals. It would be an unreal moment for the family.”

The youngster enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season after stepping up from the academy ranks. Having made his under-18 debut at just 15 years old, Miley impressed after moving into full-time football and featured regularly for Newcastle’s under-21 side.

He made his second-string debut in December before going on to register 11 appearances in the Premier League 2, earning praise for his performances.

Reflecting on his progress, Miley said: “I was delighted to get it signed a bit earlier after a good season and it’s a proud moment after being at the club from such a young age.

“I had a good breakthrough season in my first year of full-time football after the school programme. I think I kicked on at the start of the season, training with the first team a few times and making a number of appearances for the under-21s.”

Looking ahead to the 2026/27 season, Miley is determined to continue developing and push for opportunities with Eddie Howe’s first-team squad.

“I’ll be aiming to have another good season with the U21s and try to train with the first team as much as possible, impressing the staff, and hopefully make an appearance in the matchday squad.

“In the long term, it would be trying to get on the bench and making my debut for this club because that would mean a lot to me and my family.”

Newcastle United Academy Director Steve Harper also praised Miley’s development and highlighted the importance of the milestone.

“Mason has been part of our Academy for a long time, and his journey to this point has been brilliant to watch. Today is a really proud day for everyone who’s been part of it.

“Signing a professional contract is a big moment for Mason and his family, and we’re proud of the player and person he’s becoming. There’s plenty ahead of him, and we’re looking forward to supporting that next stage.”
