It’s Official – Skysports Confirms Newcastle United Bid To Sign £85million World Cup Hero

Newcastle United are expected to remain busy in the summer transfer window. However, several players could leave the club after they missed out on European qualification by finishing 12th in the Premier League last season.

Sandro Tonali is the biggest name linked with an exit. Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester City are all believed to be interested in signing the Italian midfielder this summer.

Tottenham have already made a couple of significant bids for Tonali, but Newcastle have rejected them. Even so, speculation over his future continues.

If Tonali does leave, Newcastle could revive their interest in a player they previously targeted before signing the Italian in 2023.

Sky Sports journalist confirms Newcastle’s interest in Felix Nmecha

According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, Newcastle United are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha.

Manager Eddie Howe is understood to be a big admirer of Nmecha. Newcastle came close to signing him in the summer of 2023 before choosing Tonali instead. With Tonali now linked with a move away, the club could revisit that interest.

Nmecha has an €85 million (£73.5m) release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract, although Newcastle would hope to negotiate a lower fee.

If Dortmund insist on the full amount, completing a deal could prove difficult. Nmecha is currently away with Germany at the Club World Cup.

Could Felix Nmecha replace Sandro Tonali?

Newcastle’s interest in Nmecha has been reported before, but it remains to be seen whether it develops into a serious move or stays as speculation.

The midfielder has established himself at Borussia Dortmund and has the quality to strengthen Eddie Howe’s side.

Last season, Nmecha scored five goals and provided two assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund. He has also impressed while representing Germany at the Club World Cup.

Another advantage for Newcastle is that Nmecha spent his entire youth career at Manchester City, meaning he is already familiar with English football.
