CONFIRMED: Fans’ Favourite Ready to Complete Transfer After Key Decision

Kieran Trippier will join Wolverhampton Wanderers as planned after leaving Newcastle United, despite briefly considering pulling out of the move.

The 35-year-old has decided to honour his pre-contract agreement with Wolves after receiving assurances from new head coach Cesar Peixoto that he remains a key part of the club’s plans. The move will be officially completed on July 1, when Trippier’s contract at St James’ Park expires.

Trippier joined Newcastle United from Atletico Madrid in January 2022 and enjoyed a hugely successful four-and-a-half-year spell on Tyneside. The experienced right-back played a pivotal role in helping the Magpies end their 56-year wait for a major trophy by winning the Carabao Cup, while also helping the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League on two occasions.

Although several clubs expressed interest in signing him, Trippier chose Wolves. He was heavily influenced by former head coach Rob Edwards, making it a surprise when Edwards was dismissed just days later and replaced by Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto.

The unexpected managerial change reportedly led Trippier to consider terminating his pre-contract agreement with Wolves. However, according to the Daily Telegraph, the former England international has now reaffirmed his commitment to the move after Peixoto assured him that he would play an important role in the team’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

Speaking after agreeing to join Wolves, Trippier said: “I think a lot of people know me in the game, what my character is. I like to lead, I like to use my voice on and off the pitch, and I tried to do that at Newcastle, helping them get out of relegation trouble before we took off as a club.

“I want to use my experience here and help the team be successful, help the club be successful, and do as well as I can whenever I play. Even when I don’t play, I want to help my teammates.

“It’s something that I’m really excited about. There were other clubs interested in me, but I wanted to come here. I’m looking forward to coming back for pre-season, meeting my new teammates, working with the manager again, and getting started with Wolves.”
