Leicester City are reportedly interested in signing a Top-talented star as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
According to Alan Nixon on Patreon, via Football League World, the Foxes are prepared to make a move for the Wrexham goalkeeper if he loses his position as the club’s first-choice shot-stopper.
The player featured regularly for Wrexham last season in the Championship, making 38 appearances and keeping nine clean sheets. Despite his strong involvement, Wrexham narrowly missed out on a place in the playoffs.
However, his status as the team’s number one has come under pressure. He was replaced by Danny Ward for the opening four matches of the season and later found himself back on the bench for the final four games of the campaign.
Leicester are now monitoring the situation closely and are considering a move for the Arsenal academy graduate as Russell Martin identified him as Key addition. The club is reportedly open to either a permanent transfer or a season-long loan deal, depending on how events develop at Wrexham.
Meanwhile, Wrexham are already preparing for a possible departure. Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall, has been identified as a potential replacement for Okonkwo.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper originally joined Wrexham on loan in September 2023 before making the move permanent the following season after his contract with Arsenal expired.
On the international stage, Okonkwo has also begun to make an impression for Nigeria. During the Unity Cup campaign, he kept clean sheets on his senior debut against Zimbabwe and again in the final against Jamaica, further boosting his growing reputation.
With interest from a Premier League club now emerging and his position at Wrexham uncertain, Okonkwo could be set for another major step in his career ahead of the new season.
