Wolves have been able to resist that interest so far, but Keith Wyness believes the situation could yet change in the coming weeks.
Mateus Mané has been left frustrated at Wolves amid strong transfer interest from Newcastle United.
That is according to former Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes the 18-year-old has been left feeling aggrieved by the club’s relegation and the departure of Rob Edwards.
The Black Country outfit parted company with their manager earlier in June and moved swiftly to appoint former Gil Vicente boss César Peixoto as his successor.
Wyness has suggested that Wolves face a major battle to secure an immediate return to the Premier League and must keep hold of Mané if they are to have any chance of earning promotion.
Speaking about the youngster’s future, Wyness said:
> “I’d expect that possibly to happen unless something extraordinary comes in. And I don’t think he’s quite of that quality to get an extraordinary bid.
> “He won’t have been happy about the whole Rob Edwards situation, but he’s one of the assets that they want to keep hold of if they can and utilise him in terms of that promotion push.”
Keith Wyness: Mateus Mané best served by another year at Wolves
Villa’s former chief executive Wyness—who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs—believes Mané will be hugely disappointed to be playing Championship football next season.
Nevertheless, he feels another year at Molineux would benefit the talented youngster more than making a high-profile move this summer.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Scottish businessman suggested Mané is likely to remain at Wolves unless an “extraordinary bid” arrives.
“I think it will be another year at Molineux, and he’ll then get a move by next summer. However, having said that, there could well be an offer that Wolves would find very difficult to reject,” he said.
“The player, I’m sure, won’t be happy about being a Championship player because I think he is quality. But I think his career would be better served by staying until next summer and then negotiating a move at that time.
“There’s going to be some serious competition in the Championship. It’s going to be a phenomenal season to watch.”
Wolves well-placed to sign West Ham striker Pablo Felipe
Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that Wolves are well-placed to sign West Ham striker Pablo Felipe this summer.
The 22-year-old Brazilian could be in line to leave the London Stadium already, with Wolves showing an interest after César Peixoto previously managed him at Gil Vicente.
Super agent Jorge Mendes played a major role in the striker’s move to West Ham in January, and Brown believes he could once again be key to facilitating a transfer to Wolves.
Pablo Felipe has failed to make an immediate impact for the Hammers and is still waiting for his first goal after making 17 appearances.
