The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign for Brighton last season and has attracted the attention of scouts from several top clubs, including the Magpies. His recent performances for Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup have also helped enhance his growing reputation.
As revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Newcastle are strong admirers of Ayari and believe he would be an ideal fit for Eddie Howe’s system.
Howe is keen to recruit players with proven Premier League experience while also lowering the average age of his squad, making Ayari a player who fits both criteria.
Amid continued uncertainty surrounding the futures of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães, Ayari is understood to be one of the midfielders Newcastle admire as they assess potential options should any major departures occur.
Could Newcastle make a move for Yasin Ayari?
Ayari has long attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Football Insider previously reported that Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan were monitoring the Swedish international.
Newcastle have now joined the race, and while they are likely to face competition for his signature, they could offer Ayari the chance to remain in the Premier League.
Howe is eager to add further quality in midfield, with Ayari emerging as one of the club’s leading targets as they consider whether to formalise their interest.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, Pete O’Rourke said:

How do Brighton feel about losing Ayari?
Despite Newcastle’s interest, Brighton are understood to be keen to keep hold of the midfielder.
Ayari has developed into an important player under Fabian Hürzeler, making 29 Premier League appearances last season and continuing to impress with his composure and technical quality.
Football Insider previously reported that Brighton valued Ayari at around £20 million, although that valuation may have increased following his continued development and growing interest from across Europe.
His contract situation will also play a role in any negotiations, but Brighton are expected to resist offers unless they receive a fee that reflects his importance to the squad. Should he remain at the Amex Stadium, Ayari is expected to play a key role in Brighton’s UEFA Conference League campaign next season.
