adminLeicester City manager Russell Martin has called for a “big team effort” to bring success to the King Power Stadium after being confirmed as the club’s new head coach.
The former Scotland international has signed a three-year contract, replacing Gary Rowett. He has been out of work since leaving Rangers in October, and previously guided Southampton to Premier League promotion.
His appointment makes him Leicester’s third manager in the last 12 months, following Marti Cifuentes and Gary Rowett.
Martin will begin work at the club’s Seagrave training base later this month as preparations begin for the new season.
Speaking for the first time since his appointment, he said he is excited to get started and meet the players and staff.
He said: “I’m very happy to get it done and really looking forward to getting started properly, meeting everyone, and getting out on the grass to work with the players.”
Martin explained that the decision was influenced by the people he met during the process and the overall vision of the club.
He added that the opportunity to build something meaningful at Leicester was a key attraction.
“I think it’s a chance to build something here with big energy and build connections with what we’re going to try and do. The excitement and feeling I had about it all was the biggest attraction,” he said.
He stressed the importance of unity across the club, including fans, players, and staff.
“It’s going to take a huge amount of energy, a big team effort. It’s going to take everyone. If we can build something everyone believes in and feels proud of, we can have a really exciting season,” he said.
Martin also made it clear that effort and commitment will be central to his approach.
“My job is to bring that energy, to convince the players and staff to bring that energy too. It’s not about one person. It’s about everyone moving in the same direction and giving everything.
“The only thing I’ll ask is that everyone is all in, on the training pitch and in matches at the King Power, fighting for the club and the supporters.
“If we do that, we have a real chance of achieving something.”
