According to TEAMtalk, both Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have expressed interest in the highly-rated 19-year-old forward ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Magpies are understood to be exploring a number of attacking options, with El Mala fitting the club’s recruitment strategy of targeting young players with significant long-term potential.
TEAMtalk reports that Newcastle recently contacted FC Köln to discuss the player’s situation. El Mala has attracted widespread interest following an impressive season in Germany, with clubs from the Bundesliga, Serie A and the Premier League all believed to be keeping a close eye on his progress.
Previous reports from Goal.com suggested that Brentford had been close to agreeing a deal worth around €50 million, including bonuses. However, the move ultimately failed to materialise.
One of the complications surrounding any potential transfer is believed to be the involvement of El Mala’s family in negotiations. According to TEAMtalk, the player’s parents are keen for interested clubs to also consider signing his older brother, Malek El Mala.
The report suggests that this aspect played a role in Brentford’s failed pursuit, with the club unwilling to commit to a deal involving both brothers.
Despite those challenges, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are reportedly exploring ways to overcome the family-related complications should they decide to intensify their interest.
El Mala has reportedly been offered a new contract by FC Köln and has not submitted a transfer request. However, reports indicate that the young winger is eager to test himself at a higher level, potentially opening the door to a move in the future.
At this stage, no formal offer has been submitted by Newcastle. Nevertheless, the German youth international remains a player of interest as the Magpies continue their search for promising young talent capable of strengthening Eddie Howe’s squad in the years ahead.
