That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, who spoke to Football Insider about the Public Investment Fund’s future plans.
He suggested that minority investment could be explored to help finance key developments, including the club’s stadium and training ground projects.
The most pressing issue for the Magpies remains the future of their home ground, St. James’ Park. The club has yet to decide whether to redevelop the historic stadium or build a new one, although plans for a new training facility are expected to progress regardless of the final stadium decision.
Wyness noted that Newcastle’s ownership will likely take a more structured financial approach moving forward, rather than solely relying on direct funding from the PIF for large-scale infrastructure.
Meanwhile, on the playing side, Newcastle United have confirmed the permanent departure of midfielder Travis Hernes, who has joined Dutch Eredivisie side Groningen for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Groningen, where he made 11 appearances in all competitions and helped the club finish ninth in the Dutch top flight.
Hernes initially joined Newcastle in September 2023 from Shrewsbury Town and quickly made an impression, scoring on his debut for the Under-21s in an EFL Trophy clash against Wolves.
The Norway youth international was also included in a senior matchday squad, named on the bench during Newcastle’s FA Cup win over Fulham at Craven Cottage in January 2024, before later featuring in a Premier League squad during the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa.
