As Newcastle continue their search for a new goalkeeper, Stade de Reims prospect Ewen Jaouen has emerged as a player attracting attention.
Reports from France recently claimed that the highly-rated France Under-21 international had agreed to join the Magpies after visiting Darsley Park, with a transfer fee worth around £17.4 million plus bonuses reportedly under discussion.
However, sources close to Newcastle quickly played down those reports, denying that Jaouen had visited the club’s training ground or that any deal was at an advanced stage.
Chelsea were later dragged into the speculation as reports suggested the goalkeeper had also visited Cobham.
Those claims were also dismissed, with reports in England stating that neither Chelsea nor Strasbourg were pursuing the 20-year-old.
Jaouen impressed for Reims last season, conceding 35 goals in 34 appearances, and has also been linked with Real Madrid.
While interest in the young goalkeeper remains high, any potential transfer appears to be far less advanced than some reports initially suggested.
