Just ten years after their fairytale Premier League title triumph, the Foxes now find themselves facing a completely different reality. Three relegations in four years have left the club in turmoil, and supporters are demanding major changes ahead of the new campaign.
Neither Marti Cifuentes nor Gary Rowett managed to keep Leicester afloat, and following Rowett’s departure at the end of his contract, the club has intensified its search for a new manager who can lead them back to the Championship.
However, the latest name linked with the vacancy has sparked a furious reaction among sections of the Leicester fanbase.
According to reports, Leicester City have identified former Southampton and Rangers manager Russell Martin as a leading candidate for the role.
Martin has been without a job since being dismissed by Rangers in October 2025 after winning just five of his 17 matches in charge. While he previously guided Southampton back to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs in 2024, his time in the top flight proved difficult and ultimately ended with his dismissal.
The 39-year-old then moved to Rangers, but his spell in Scotland was equally disappointing, leaving many Leicester supporters unconvinced that he is the right man for the job.
Football League World’s Leicester fan pundit Jamie has openly voiced his concerns over the potential appointment.
“Russell Martin, new Leicester manager. Why, oh why, do Leicester keep going for players or managers with Southampton connections?” Jamie said.
He added that Martin’s possession-based style is not suited to the demands of League One football, arguing that Leicester need a manager capable of delivering the hard-working, relentless performances required to secure promotion.
Jamie also questioned reports suggesting Leicester have offered Martin a lucrative contract, pointing to the club’s current financial struggles.
“I just don’t think he’s the right fit for us,” he said. “A lot of Leicester fans will be opposed to having Russell Martin as their man in charge, and I think I’m one of them.”
The next managerial appointment could define Leicester City’s future. The club remains under financial pressure and another disappointing season would only deepen their problems.
Since Enzo Maresca left for Chelsea in 2024, Leicester have struggled to find stability. Steve Cooper, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Marti Cifuentes and Gary Rowett all failed to halt the club’s decline.
