adminA heated confrontation involving Harry Winks and a Leicester City supporter after the defeat to Portsmouth has become the latest flashpoint in a rapidly unravelling season for the Foxes, with talkSPORT’s White & Jordan show turning the incident into a wider discussion on the club’s collapse.
Winks was seen angrily responding to a fan as players made their way onto the team bus following the 1-0 defeat at Fratton Park. The exchange, which quickly circulated online, showed the midfielder losing his temper after being taunted by supporters at the ground.
The incident added to growing frustration around the club, with Leicester now on the brink of another relegation and tensions clearly spilling over between players and fans.
From there, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan delivered a brutal assessment of the club’s situation.
“They’re done. Look who they’ve got to play,” Jordan said. “Hull are pushing for the playoffs, Millwall are in the mix as well, and Blackburn are just above them. With all due respect… they’re done.”
Jordan suggested the problems at Leicester run far deeper than just results on the pitch.
“There’s something rotten inside Leicester,” he said. “They’ve spent too much time trying to work around financial breaches, whether in the Premier League or the Championship, and not enough time focusing on what’s happening on the pitch.”
Despite their struggles, both Jordan and Martin Keown pointed to the squad’s experience and quality, questioning how the club has ended up in a relegation fight.
“When you look at that team, it’s quite ridiculous they’re in this position,” Jordan added. “Even with the points deduction, you can’t hide behind that excuse.”
Keown agreed, stressing that underperformance has been the key issue.
“There’s too much quality there to be in this situation,” he said. “They’ve only got themselves to blame… and once you start dropping, it can become a slippery slope.”
Jordan also widened his criticism to the entire structure of the club.
The conversation also touched on Harry Winks’ confrontation with a supporter after a recent defeat an incident both pundits saw as a sign of growing tension around the club.
“That’s shameful, what happened there between the fan and the player. The club needs to address these issues immediately; otherwise, we’re going to see the fall of a once Premier League-winning side soon.”
“They’re all in it,” Jordan said. “The ownership, the players, the manager none of them should escape it.”
He did, however, show some sympathy for manager Gary Rowett, suggesting he has inherited a difficult situation rather than created it.
“He might end up with the indignity of taking two teams down,” Jordan said. “But I don’t think he’s really at the root of this. He’s come into a toxic situation.”
