In the summer transfer window, the club brought in a number of players on loan. Jordan James arrived from Stade Rennais to add energy in midfield, while Julián Carranza joined from Feyenoord as a striker, although his loan was later cut short. Aaron Ramsey also came in from Burnley to boost attacking options.
When January 2026 came around, Leicester added more players to the squad. Joe Aribo joined from Southampton to bring experience, Divine Mukasa arrived from Manchester City as a young attacking option, and Dujuan Richards came in from Chelsea to strengthen the forward line.
At the same time, several players left the club on loan. Bilal El Khannouss moved to VfB Stuttgart, a deal that later became permanent. Will Alves joined Huddersfield Town, Woyo Coulibaly went to Sassuolo, and Wout Faes moved to Monaco. Younger players like Sammy Braybrooke, Chris Popov and Jake Evans were also sent out to lower-league clubs to gain experience.
But one name in particular has got fans talking and celebrating after he made it clear that he wants to stay at the club beyond his current loan spell.
The arrival of Wout Faes at the King Power Stadium in 2022 didn’t really feel like a well-planned move. It felt rushed, like the club was just trying to calm down frustrated fans at the time.
Instead of solving the real problems in the team, it seemed more like a short-term fix for a bigger issue. Looking back now, that decision clearly didn’t work out as expected.
His signing came just before what many fans now describe as one of the club’s most difficult periods, often referred to as a “nightmare” spell for Leicester City.
Since joining, Faes has struggled to find consistency. Despite coming in as an international player with experience, his performances have been up and down. In some matches, he made costly mistakes, while in others, he didn’t look fully focused or confident.
Watching him became frustrating for supporters. At times, it felt like his confidence or even his desire wasn’t fully there. It gave the impression of a player going through a tough period both mentally and on the pitch.
Now, things are starting to change. Faes has openly said he would like to stay permanently at AS Monaco after his loan. Many Leicester fans are not too worried about that, and some are even happy to see him move on.
From a financial point of view, the situation isn’t ideal. Leicester are unlikely to recover the full amount they paid to sign him from Reims. Still, getting part of that fee back would be better than keeping a player who is not performing at his best.
Keeping someone who is struggling and not fully committed could cause more problems. Letting him go now might be the best decision for both the club and the player.
Faes himself has admitted that leaving was not easy, but it was something both sides agreed on in the end.
Now, as he continues his career in a new environment, this move looks like a fresh start. For Leicester, it’s a chance to rebuild. For Faes, it’s an opportunity to get back to his best.
