Although Matheus Nunes pulled one back for City just before half-time, Spurs held firm, even surviving a late scare when Yves Bissouma cleared a ball in the goal line. With this win, Tottenham progresses to the quarter-finals, where they will face Manchester United at home.

“It was an important win,” Postecoglou remarked after the match. “In the cup competitions, you have to win to continue.

Playing against an unstoppable side like City is always a challenge, but we defended well and had some excellent attacking moments.”

Among those who shone during the match was defender Radu Dragusin, whose performance drew praise, being labelled “outstanding” by journalist Graeme Bailey.

As a result, Dragusin’s agents are reportedly seeking enquiries from clubs in Serie A, including Napoli, AC Milan, and Juventus.

Nevertheless, both the player and Tottenham have no current desire for a transfer, as they seek to build on his promising start since joining from Genoa for £26.7 million last two windows.

Having made 15 appearances for Spurs, Dragusin appears determined for even more opportunities, especially following this outstanding display. The north London club is keen to retain the young defender as they goes further in the rest of the season.
