Huge Blow For Spurs, Ange Postecoglou Risks Losing One Of His ‘Best Player’ To A Rival Club

Tottenham Hotspur could be in the market for a new right-back, as one of their best defenders this season is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester City, who are considering potential replacements for the aging English veteran Kyle Walker.

With Walker now 34, concerns about his future under Pep Guardiola have prompted City to explore other options, and Pedro Porro has emerged as a key target for the Premier League giants.

Recall that Pedro Porro joined Spurs in July 2023 from Sporting CP in a deal worth £33 million, after an impressive six-month loan spell prior to his permanent transfer to the North London club.

His performances have established him as one of the best wing-backs in the league, and according to Football Insider, he is “no doubt” on City’s radar.

Former Premier League scout Mick Brown revealed, “He’s definitely one of the names on their list. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them get that one over the line at some stage.”

Brown assessed City’s current issues in the right-back position, highlighting that they are “looking at strengthening in that position,” following some errors from Walker this season. He added, “Porro has been impressive for Tottenham over a long period of time now, not just recently.

Those performances have caught the eye, and if Spurs aren’t going to be successful, he could move on,” he concluded.

Interestingly, Porro has a history with Manchester City, having spent three years at the Etihad Stadium after joining from Girona for £10 million when he was just 20.

However, that spell didn’t go as planned, as the player failed to make a single first-team appearance before moving to Portuguese side Sporting CP, where he redeemed his career by making 98 appearances and contributing to 12 goals and 20 assists, establishing himself as one of the most sought-after players in Europe.

Since arriving at Tottenham, Porro has become a prominent figure under Ange Postecoglou, racking up 64 appearances, eight goals, and ten assists in just over a year.

His consistent form has undoubtedly drawn attention not just from Manchester City, but also from other elite clubs across Europe.

Real Madrid are now considering the Spanish wing-back as a potential target alongside Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

According to reports earlier this month, Carlo Ancelotti’s side may hope to secure Porro’s signature if they fail to land Alexander-Arnold, the Liverpool right-back who is currently nearing the end of his contract at Anfield.

Given the England international’s close ties with Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, Liverpool will hope to tie him down to a new contract to fend off competition from other teams.
